How to make soap yourself

Making soap yourself is a fun and creative process. Here is a simple guide for making your own soap using the cold process method:

### Requirements:
- **Ingredients**:
- 500 g olive oil
- 250 g coconut oil
- 250 g palm oil
- 150 g sodium hydroxide (NaOH) - caustic soda
- 380 g distilled water
- Essential oils (optional, for fragrance)
- Colorants (optional)

- **Equipment**:
- Safety goggles and gloves
- Scale
- Mixing bowl (preferably stainless steel or glass)
- Stick blender
- Soap mold
- Thermometer
- Spatula
- Towels or blankets (for insulation)

### Steps:
1. **Safety First**: Wear gloves and safety goggles. Work in a well-ventilated area.

2. **Make the Lye Solution**:
- Weigh the distilled water in a heat-resistant bowl.
- Weigh the sodium hydroxide and carefully add it to the water (never the other way around!). Stir until fully dissolved. This mixture will get hot, so let it cool down to about 37-43 °C.

3. **Heat the Oils**:
- Weigh the oils and heat them in a pan until completely melted. Let this mixture cool down to about 37-43 °C as well.

4. **Mix the Lye with the Oils**:
- When both the lye solution and the oils are at the right temperature, slowly add the lye to the oils. Use a stick blender to mix until it shows "traces" (a slight thickening).

5. **Add Fragrance and Color**:
- If you want to add essential oils or colorants, do this now and mix well.

6. **Pour into the Mold**:
- Pour the soap mixture into the soap mold. Smooth the top with a spatula.

7. **Insulate**:
- Cover the mold with a towel or blanket to keep the mixture warm while it hardens.

8. **Cure**:
- Leave the soap in the mold for 24 to 48 hours. After this time, you can remove the soap from the mold and cut it into pieces.

9. **Aging**:
- Let the soap cure in a cool, dry place for 4-6 weeks before using it. This ensures that the lye has fully reacted and the soap is safe to use.

### Notes:
- Be careful with sodium hydroxide, as it is caustic.
- Experiment with different oils and additives to create unique soap variations.

Enjoy making your own soap!
